One More Thing…for the WISPs!

By Jaime Fink

I can’t begin to describe the level of excitement the Mimosa team feels as we are finally able to bring our first products to market and announce our complete “Cloud-to-Client” platform strategy. It’s been a huge effort by an incredibly talented organization, and I can honestly say this is the most driven and creative team I’ve ever worked with.

First I’d like to thank all of you that have been working to support our 10 GHz FCC petition, and fighting to fix the new 5 GHz out of bands emission limits. It’s a laborious process, and Mimosa is very committed to opening and protecting spectrum for WISPs - we appreciate your help.

In addition to the announcements made earlier this month, I want to share with you a few more tools and features that we have been preparing, as well as an update on our FCC certification.

  • *Free* FCC Form 477 WISP Tool – Things got more complicated this year for WISPs on Form 477 with the introduction of census tract data requirements. We’ve got you covered with a new free tool, which will be ready the first week of September. This will let you import subscriber location/technology/service data and perform all geocoding US Census Bureau Tract lookups to make the Form 477 submission process simpler. We hope you like it and can breathe easier on your submissions!
  • Custom Radio Planning – Also in September, users will be able to create custom templates for point-to-point radios in our network design tool. This means that you can use the tool to design links with any radio/antenna and receive detailed link plans.
  • UNII-1 Support – We’ve already been FCC certified for use in both the new UNII-1 spectrum and in UNII-3. This feature allows you to use our dual link capability to split your channel sets across UNII-1 and UNII-3 if necessary.
  • UNII-2 DFS FCC Update – While we’ve fully tested our UNII-2 DFS implementation successfully, we’re currently in the FCC line for testing. We will provide free firmware updates to customers once it’s fully certified, which we anticipate to occur before the end of the year.

There’s a lot more where this came from – more product announcements, and lots of continuous cloud development. Check out Mimosa’s design tool, and keep sending us your product feedback. We absolutely rely on you for more great product ideas and look forward to hearing from you.
