Fast-Track Your BEAD Deployment with Mimosa

BEAD Broadband Solutions: Connectivity, Simplified for America’s Communities

Mimosa’s 6 Series delivers high-capacity, AFC-ready fixed wireless solutions that help BEAD awardees accelerate broadband deployment, bridge rural gaps quickly, and meet NTIA performance expectations with fiber-fast wireless.

Understanding BEAD

What is BEAD?

Mimosa Aligns with BEAD Priorities:

  • AFC-Ready PTMP Solution:
Our A6 Access Point, C6x, and C6x Lite Edition create a complete 6 GHz PTMP solution that enables operators to deploy high-capacity fixed wireless while meeting BEAD expectations for interference protection, reliability, and scalable coverage.
  • Fiber-Fast Speeds Without Fiber Costs:
Mimosa’s 6 Series delivers multi-gigabit wireless speeds with significantly faster deployment timelines—ideal for bridging rural buildouts, addressing long lead-times, or serving as a hybrid alongside fiber.
  • Rapid Deployment to Demonstrate Progress:
BEAD and RDOF winners must show measurable buildout progress. Mimosa excels in scenarios where speed-to-connect is essential, enabling awardees to serve communities quickly while long-term fiber plans progress.
  • Cost/Performance Leadership:
With Mimosa’s focused portfolio and competitive pricing, operators can extend BEAD dollars further while still delivering high-capacity broadband that aligns with NTIA speed and latency expectations.

Our BEAD-Ready Solution: A6 + C6x Portfolio

Mimosa’s 6 Series provides a complete, high-performance PTMP architecture ready for AFC-controlled 6 GHz operations.

Included Products:

Together, these products deliver:

  • Cleaner spectrum
  • Flexible PTMP configurations
  • Scalable deployment for single-family and MDU environments

Compliance

BABA Compliance

While the BEAD program emphasizes Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements, Mimosa’s products currently fall under the NTIA’s BABA Waiver for Telecommunications Equipment. This waiver allows BEAD awardees to confidently procure Mimosa 6 Series devices while NTIA continues to evaluate long-term domestic manufacturing frameworks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Our AFC solution is available now for A6 Access Point with C6x in PTMP with our clients operating in Standard Client Mode, which requires 6 dBi less power per AFC regulations - firmware release 3.2.5.

The first step is to request a token by completing the form on this page: https://www2.mimosa.co/afc-token-request. Once approved and token is issued, follow the best practices outlined through our Operations Guide to configure and activate AFC in your environment.

States have already submitted their Initial and Final Proposals to the NTIA, and most have closed their formal application periods for Internet Service Providers. However, many states are still refining subgrantee selections, building challenge processes, or preparing competitive grant rounds.

This means:

  • Some states may still have upcoming application windows,
  • Others are still evaluating or selecting providers,
  • And some will reopen opportunities if allocations shift or projects fall through.

If you’re unsure about your state’s timeline, check with your State Broadband Office or reach out to Mimosa—we track many state-level updates and can point you in the right direction.

No — you are not required to deploy in 6 GHz to use Fixed Wireless Access.
Mimosa offers multiple pathways depending on your deployment timeline, your BEAD strategy, and the spectrum available in your area.

Option 1: Deploy in 5 GHz with Mimosa’s 5 Series
Even though the 5 Series is now end-of-life, it remains a highly effective, proven stop-gap solution for operators who need:

  • Fast, scalable deployment
  • Immediate subscriber turn-ups
  • A way to demonstrate progress while long-term infrastructure (fiber or 6 GHz PTMP) is built

Many BEAD and RDOF awardees use 5 GHz for quick coverage wins before transitioning to 6 Series.

Option 2: Choose Mimosa’s 6 Series for a future-proof path
Mimosa’s A6 Access Point, C6x, and C6x Lite Edition provide a single-product (one SKU) solution that can operate in either 5 GHz or 6 GHz (though not simultaneously). This gives operators flexibility to:

  • Deploy in 5 GHz today
  • Move to 6 GHz whenever AFC-controlled spectrum becomes available
  • Stay aligned with BEAD expectations around performance, reliability, and long-term scalability

This makes the 6 Series an ideal choice for operators who want better performance now and future expansion options later.

Generally, you can switch—as long as the substitute technology stays within the same project category and still meets NTIA requirements.

Here’s the rule of thumb:

  • If your approved plan lists Fixed Wireless Access, you can choose any FWA vendor (including Mimosa).
  • If your plan lists Fiber, you must still build fiber—but you can choose any fiber vendor.
  • If your proposal committed to certain performance thresholds, the solution you switch to must still meet or exceed them.

Most states allow substitutions during buildout, especially if:

  • The change does not reduce performance,
  • Costs remain reasonable,
  • And timelines improve or stay on track.

When in doubt, check with your State Broadband Office—but switching from one FWA supplier to Mimosa is typically acceptable.

You’re not alone—many awardees need to begin deployment now while funding flows through the NTIA and states.

Good news: Several of our U.S. distributors offer financing programs, deferred payment options, or staged purchasing strategies to help BEAD applicants and subgrantees get started immediately.

Reach out to Mimosa, and we’ll connect you with distribution partners who can help you accelerate deployment without waiting for BEAD dollars to land.
