AFC Readiness for 6 GHz

Available Now - Operate in 6 GHz with AFC

Turn on AFC-enabled firmware (v3.2.5 or higher) to bring coordinated 6 GHz operation for MImosa's A6 and C6x.

Understanding AFC

What AFC Is and Why It’s Needed

What is AFC?

Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) is a cloud authorization system that checks protected 6 GHz incumbents, then grants your access point the channels and power levels it may use. That way, new unlicensed deployments can operate at high capacity without causing interference.

Why it matters for WISPs

  • Unlocks 6 GHz with interference-aware channel/power assignments.
  • Protects incumbents while enabling fiber-like wireless capacity.
  • Supports scale via explicit transmit permissions for compliant APs.

Status at a glance

  • PTMP: Available now—A6 Access Point + C6x clients (Standard Client Mode).
  • PTP: Planned—future firmware will enable Fixed Client Mode on C6x.
  • Firmware: Use v3.2.5 or higher.
Mimosa's AFC Solution

Getting Started

Simple to enable. Designed to scale.

  • PTMP now: A6 receives AFC authorization and signals power requirements to connected C6x clients operating in Standard Client Mode (reduced EIRP per AFC rules).
  • PTP next: A future firmware will introduce Fixed Client Mode so PTP links can operate under AFC with client location reporting and full power as permitted.
  • Cloud-managed: Configure, upgrade, and verify AFC status through Mimosa Cloud.

Step 1: Request a token.
Start by requesting your AFC token for your Mimosa deployment using our short form. We currently facilitate authorization through an approved AFC provider on the backend—no extra action required beyond requesting the token.

At this time, Mimosa integrates with Comsearch in the background to process authorizations.

  • Mode: PTMP uses Standard Client Mode on C6x (reduced EIRP per AFC).
  • Regions: Availability and rules depend on local regulation; check release notes.
  • Pricing: AFC functionality is currently included; program terms may change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Our AFC solution is available now for A6 Access Point with C6x in PTMP with our clients operating in Standard Client Mode, which requires 6 dBi less power per AFC regulations - firmware release 3.2.5.

The first step is to request a token by completing the form on this page: https://www2.mimosa.co/afc-token-request. Once approved and token is issued, follow the best practices outlined through our Operations Guide to configure and activate AFC in your environment.

Today AFC functionality is included with Mimosa radios. Pricing models may evolve as the broader AFC program rolls out.
