“Connecting the Unconnected": Mimosa Networks and Bluewave Bermuda Win at CANTO 2018
We are pleased to announce that Mimosa and Bermuda-based Bluewave jointly took home the award for “Connecting the Unconnected” at the inaugural 2018 CANTO Innovation Awards. Bluewave’s large-scale deployment of Mimosa’s fixed wireless solutions delivers high-speed internet, video, and voice to business and residential subscribers on the island of Bermuda. Congratulations, Bluewave, and thank you, CANTO!
Starting in 2017, Bluewave selected Mimosa to design a high-speed network using long range tower deployments and Mimosa’s signature MicroPoP architecture. Tower deployments use Mimosa A5c connectorized access points to service subscribers across the 21-mile island.
In higher-density residential neighborhoods, Bluewave deploys Mimosa’s A5 access and C5 client devices in a MicroPoP architecture, servicing an average of 30 single-family homes within a 500m radius from the access point.
Bluewave service offerings range from 10 to 100 Mbps for residential subscribers and up to 1 Gbps to business clients.
To deliver bandwidth to the last-mile access network, Bluewave also deploys Mimosa B5 and B11 point-to-point radios to connect the network back to a fiber termination point. Bluewave is also in the process of deploying Mimosa’s new B24 wireless backhaul solution, the first affordable Gigabit-speed radio in the unlicensed 24 GHz band.
Nick Faries, Bluewave CEO, said, "Bluewave is honored that our effort to bring reliable, high-speed internet to residents and businesses in Bermuda has been recognized by CANTO 2018. Partnering with Mimosa has enabled us to usher in much-needed competition, system reliability and value for money that is benefiting the Bermudian community. We hope that our business and network model will inspire other islands to overcome their connectivity challenges so they may be able to leverage the numerous benefits associated with wireless technology.
“We are grateful for the recognition from CANTO, and excited to see Bluewave’s efforts in Bermuda serve as a model for other CANTO members in the Caribbean and the Americas who may be struggling with similar connectivity challenges,” said John Colvin, Mimosa SVP of Global Field Operations. “We look forward to partnering with Bluewave as they continue to set the bar for exceptional offerings.”
